10 of the most innovative electrical products of the decade
The last decade has been a time of incredible technological innovation, and with it not long over, it’s a good time to look at the most innovative and far-reaching new electrical and electronic products of the past 10 years. How many of these have found their way into your home? 1. Affordable large-screen flat-panel HDTVs Plasma and LCD HDTVs have been one of the biggest consumer electronics stories of the decade. While we’re not highlighting one brand over another, we are highlighting the fact that prices continue to drop for displays 42 inches and larger. 2. Amazon Kindle The e-reader has been around for a while and Sony actually had a reader with an e-ink display before Amazon. But the Kindle – and Amazon’s marketing efforts – were the key to bringing attention to these now hot devices. 3. Apple iMac G4 flat-panel While arguments will rage over whether the design of the G4 or G5 iMac was the more influential on the all-in-one desktop market, the G4 set the stage. 4. Apple iPod Arguably the most influential product of the decade – or certainly in the top three. 5. Apple iPhone Apple’s magic touch shown to work again – big time. 6. The BlackBerry The first BlackBerry with an integrated phone appeared in 2002, and it remains the staple messaging device for millions of mobile professionals. 7. Nintendo DS A good example of how wrong some ‘expert’ reviewers can be. Derided at launch for its looks, it went on to kick off ‘touch-based’ gaming and has been a huge success. 8. Nintendo Wii Nintendo silenced the naysayers again, when at launch, many mocked the console’s name – as well as the system itself. But Nintendo’s innovative motion controller became a cultural phenomenon and the Wii converted legions of non-gamers. 9. Sony Playstation 2 Launched in 2000, the PS2 is still on sale, with Sony keeping its promise that the system would last a decade. With an integrated DVD player, the PS2 helped make the game console the centrepiece of the living-room entertainment system. 10. TomTom Go (affordable GPS) We wanted to highlight GPS’ impact on the market (and the world) but weren’t quite sure how to present it. While it’s not fair to single out one GPS device as the ultimate innovation, we will say that devices like the TomTom Go helped make GPS the mass-market product it is today. If you are looking for an innovative product then search online where there are a range of games consoles and Mp3 Players available.
